Georgia School Boards Association votes to end National School Board Association membership

Effective immediately, the Georgia School Boards Association has voted to end their membership with the National School Board Association. They join a growing list of states - included the latest: Florida - that have either voted to terminate, or allow their membership to lapse.

Their vote to break with the national advocacy group follows a disturbing letter sent in September to President Joe Biden in which the NSBA sought protection for school officials and employees and federal intervention. Georgia has also accused the NSBA of “a persistent pattern of dysfunction”.

So far 12 states have either withdrawn their membership or withheld dues from NSBA: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Wisconsin.

I personally hope that this trend continues, as state School Board Associations, teachers, and parents alike begin to wake up to the idea that a one-size-fits-all approach will never work for education and our students deserve better than what these failing bureaucracies have to offer.
